On October 27, 2009, a Shanghai petitioner Shen Peilan (沈佩兰) was beaten by police officers when she went to visit rights defense lawyer Zheng Enchong (郑恩宠). On October 29, 2009, Shen was taken away from their home by officers from the public security bureau of Maqiao Township in Pudong New District, Shanghai.
