Beijing-based activist Wang Lihong (王荔蕻) was convicted today by the Chaoyang District People’s Court of Beijing of “picking quarrels and provoking troubles” (寻衅滋事). She was sentenced to nine months in jail, with an expected release date of December 20, 2011. The charge against Wang was based on her role in organizing a protest outside a Fujian courthouse on April 16, 2010, where three netizens were tried for “making false accusations” after they assisted a petitioner in documenting the rape and death of the petitioner’s daughter. Wang’s family and her lawyer state that she will appeal the sentence.
